Edo politics just got hotter as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) lock horns over a jaw-dropping allegation that Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration blew ₦3.51 billion on travel in just eight months.
The PDP, through its Publicity Secretary Chris Osa Nehikhare, slammed the expenditure as “reckless, wasteful, and shameful”, especially when Edo State failed to attract a single kobo in foreign investment, according to the latest NBS Capital Importation Report.
“While Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Kaduna, Kano, and even Ekiti are pulling in investments, Edo leaders are burning public funds on endless trips,” Nehikhare fired, accusing the APC-led government of ignoring bad roads, crumbling schools, poor healthcare, delayed salaries, and unstable electricity.
The opposition demanded that the state publish full details of the alleged trips and channel funds into development projects instead of “jamboree tourism.”
But APC’s Edo chairman Emperor Jarrett Tenebe hit back hard, branding the PDP’s claims as “pure hallucination” caused by “post-election defeat syndrome.”
Tenebe insisted Governor Okpebholo has not embarked on any foreign trip since taking office on November 12, 2024, and accused the PDP of running a failed “MOU 419 government” during its own tenure.
“Okpebholo is a grassroots leader focused on homegrown solutions, not globe-trotting like the PDP,” Tenebe said. “Our priority is all-round development for Edo’s 18 LGAs in line with global best practices.”
With the PDP calling for accountability and the APC dismissing the allegations outright, Edo residents are left watching another round of fierce political drama unfold.
