Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has called on Nigerians, particularly members of the Obidient Movement and the Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM), to support African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidates in the upcoming August 16, 2025 bye-elections.
The elections, scheduled to hold across 16 states, will see voters decide 2 senatorial seats, 5 House of Representatives seats, and 9 state assembly seats.
Obi explained that the Labour Party (LP) will not be fielding officially recognised candidates in the polls due to unresolved internal crises and the absence of INEC’s certification. He urged his supporters to see the ADC as the coalition’s preferred platform for this round of elections.
“Because the Labour Party has no recognised candidates by INEC due to the internal crisis, I humbly urge every member of Obidient and COPDEM families to go out and vote for the coalition political party, African Democratic Congress (ADC), in their respective states,” Obi stated.
He added that the political struggle for Nigeria’s future has already begun and encouraged citizens to actively participate in ensuring credible leadership at all levels.
The August 16 bye-elections are set to be one of the most closely watched political events of the year, with multiple parties vying to strengthen their influence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
