Legendary Nigerian musician 2Face Idibia (2Baba) has made history as his timeless hit “African Queen” was ranked number one on Billboard’s newly released list of the Top 50 Best Afrobeats Songs of All Time.
The chart, which celebrates Afrobeats’ global influence, saw Wizkid become the only artist with two songs in the top 10 — “Ojuelegba” at number 2 and “Essence” featuring Tems at number 5.
Other notable entries in the Top 10 include:
- Favour – “Nwa Baby (Ashawo Remix)” at number 3
- Rema – “Calm Down” at number 4
- CKay – “Love Nwantiti” at number 6
The list also recognized female contributions, with Yemi Alade’s “Johnny” ranking at number 15, making her the highest-ranked female lead artist.
Nigerian classics dominated the list, with Styl-Plus’ “Olufunmi” (11), 9ice’s “Gongo Aso” (12), and P-Square’s “Do Me” (13) all making the cut. Ghanaian stars were not left out, as Fuse ODG’s “Azonto” (18) and Sarkodie’s “Adonai” featuring Castro (19) also featured.
With contributions from Wande Coal, Phyno, Davido, and more, the ranking underscores the richness, diversity, and global impact of Afrobeats over the years.
