The clash involved FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, each backing opposing PDP factions attempting to seize control of the party’s national secretariat at Wadata Plaza, Wuse Zone 5.
According to Reports, security operatives loyal to both sides engaged in a chaotic showdown, firing teargas around the premises as each camp attempted to assert dominance over the secretariat. Eyewitnesses described the scene as a “free-for-all power struggle.”
How the Crisis Erupted
- Governor Makinde arrived at the secretariat accompanied by the newly elected National Secretary, Taofeek Arapaja, from the Ibadan convention.
- At the same time, Nyesom Wike held his ground inside the building alongside Samuel Anyanwu, the embattled National Secretary who insists his tenure remains valid until December 8, 2025.
- Shortly after, the Taminu Turaki faction also arrived but were initially denied entry.
- Two governors eventually forced their way into the building.
- As more members tried to enter, security personnel fired gunshots and deployed teargas, sending party members and bystanders scrambling for safety.
Parallel Meetings Deepen Crisis
Both factions had scheduled separate meetings for today:
- Wike-backed faction led by Anyanwu.
- Ibadan-elected NWC backing Arapaja.
Anyanwu, speaking before the opposing faction arrived, claimed the increased security presence was to maintain peace, dismissing fears of escalation. However, events quickly spiraled into violence.
Party Leaders Raise Alarm
Senior PDP elders have accused security agencies of failing to remain neutral, warning that the party is drifting into deeper instability if urgent reconciliation efforts are not initiated.
The PDP headquarters remains under tight security as tensions continue to rise.
