Ratel President Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman (VDM), has reacted strongly to the life imprisonment sentence handed to IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, calling it a ploy by the government to distract Nigerians from pressing national issues.
Kanu, who faced a four-year legal battle, was sentenced to life in prison, sparking widespread debate. Sharing his views on Instagram, VDM described the verdict as a deliberate diversion from Nigeria’s critical challenges, including rising insecurity affecting Christians, Muslims, and traditionalists across ethnic groups such as Igbo, Yoruba, and Hausa.
VDM argued that expecting Kanu’s immediate release was unrealistic, predicting that he could serve around 20 years before any chance of freedom. He also criticized President Bola Tinubu, urging him to resign if he cannot secure the rescue of girls abducted in Kebbi State, while warning Nigerians to remain vigilant amid growing terrorist threats.
Reflecting on Kanu’s activism, VDM highlighted that the IPOB leader “sacrificed himself for many” by speaking out on insecurity. He also advised Nigerian youths against letting the government create divisions and cautioned travelers planning trips during the December holidays to ensure their transport providers have armed security, recommending postponement if such measures are lacking.
The public reaction has been swift, with many Nigerians taking to social media to voice concerns over timing and national safety. Comments include:
- @mol_thrift: “Never believe we will get to this point where I call my parents 7pm each night to make sure they are all inside and all doors locked. It’s becoming more scary everyday.”
- @amarachi_beauty: “This December I repeat, if you don’t have money for flight, pls stay back.”
- @only1_raihan: “For over 4 years, they’ve been on his case, but the verdict drops when everyone’s questioning the system’s insecurities. Interesting timing, isn’t it?”
- @agentvic_: “VDM is right. Check the timing and the dramas lately.”
- @official_fancorner: “So that judge nah person best daddy.”
VDM’s statements, coupled with these reactions, have reignited debates on justice, political accountability, and national security in Nigeria.
