Olamide has stirred a massive conversation after making a bold statement about Wizkid during an interactive Q&A session at York University in Toronto.
Speaking to students about Nigerian music, culture, and Afrobeats’ global dominance, the YBNL founder praised Wizkid’s impact and ranked him directly after the legendary Fela Kuti in the genre’s hierarchy.
Olamide said he has collaborated with Wizkid for over a decade, citing their joint hits—including Kana and earlier works from 2011—as evidence of Wizkid’s long-standing influence on the sound and international growth of Afrobeats.
According to him:
“I’ve had the privilege of working with Wizkid — we’ve made so many songs together. You know say after Fela, Wizkid is the greatest Afrobeats artist ever.”
His declaration drew loud cheers from the audience and immediately ignited a heated debate across social media platforms. Fans of Burna Boy, Davido, and other stars jumped into the conversation, reviving long-standing arguments about who truly leads the current Afrobeats generation.
Despite the divided opinions, Olamide’s statement underscores one thing: Afrobeats continues to evolve, inspire, and dominate globally—thanks in part to the contributions of artists like Wizkid, whom he credits with pushing the sound onto the world stage.
