Reality TV star and prominent social media influencer Anita “Tacha” Akide, originally from Rivers State, has hinted at future involvement in politics as she sharply criticised what she described as the “wasted potential” of her home region.
During a fiery exchange on X (formerly Twitter), Tacha addressed criticisms over her silence on Rivers State’s prolonged political crisis. She responded to a troll who accused her of ignoring state issues while remaining vocal on other topics:
“I’ve talked about Rivers State more than all the celebrities from Rivers State put together!! If you’re so concerned, grow up your own platform and talk. Nobody hold ur mouth.”
Tacha’s post comes amid ongoing governance issues in Rivers, which includes the declaration of a state of emergency by President Tinubu. Critics have blamed clashes between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and former governor-turned-FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for political instability, legislative paralysis, and economic decline.
By challenging trolls and addressing her platform head-on, Tacha positions herself not just as an entertainer, but as someone deeply concerned about Rivers State’s future.
During a recent appearance on Rubbin’ Minds with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Tacha hinted at a future in politics while critiquing Rivers State’s stagnation. She explained:
“It is something I’m working on. I’ll have to make it 70 % done before I can talk about it, because it does not make sense granting interviews like this, talking about the government without being involved,”
Tacha’s statements suggest she may be exploring a political trajectory; uncommon among influencers. Her roots in Port Harcourt and vocal activism resonate with youth and entertainment circles alike.
Her reference to Rivers’ untapped potential underlines broader frustrations with leadership failures and lack of development particularly regarding youth engagement and entertainment industry support.
