Panic has engulfed Eruku, a community in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, after terrorists launched a deadly assault on a branch of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) on Tuesday evening, killing three worshippers and abducting several others, including the church pastor.
According to eyewitness accounts obtained by SaharaReporters, the attackers stormed the church during a meeting and opened fire immediately, sending worshippers scrambling in fear. Three members were shot dead on the spot, while an undisclosed number of people were taken hostage at gunpoint.
“They came in suddenly and started shooting. Three people were killed instantly,” a source said.
“They gathered others and marched them into the bush. We still don’t know the exact number taken.”
The attackers reportedly escaped through bush paths connecting Eruku to neighbouring communities, leaving the town in a state of fear and confusion.
Earlier reports indicated that heavily armed terrorists had entered the area through a major route, firing sporadically and causing travellers and residents to flee into the bush. Abandoned vehicles lined the roads as sustained gunfire echoed across the community.
A traveller who narrowly escaped captured a frantic video from hiding, pleading for help:
“This is 18-11-2025… they started shooting. Everybody has scattered into the bush. Please come to our rescue. People have abandoned their vehicles. The community is in chaos.”
Residents say the terrorists moved unhindered through multiple communities, wreaking havoc without any security response.
As of press time, neither the Kwara State Police Command nor the state government has released an official statement regarding the attack.
