The body of Nigeria’s late former president, Muhammadu Buhari, has arrived in Katsina State and is being transported to Daura, his hometown, for final burial rites. The somber occasion has drawn dignitaries, government officials, and a large number of citizens to Katsina to pay their last respects.
Buhari passed away on July 13, 2025, in London, after a prolonged health battle. His burial is being conducted in line with Islamic rites, with military honors observed upon arrival at the airport.

“The journey to Daura is more than symbolic. it’s a final homecoming for a leader who shaped Nigeria’s democratic and military chapters,” said a senior Katsina official.
Final Resting Place in Daura
Security has been tightened along the Katsina–Daura route, with citizens lining the streets in silent tribute. The burial will take place at the Gidan Buhari compound, where family, political allies, and traditional leaders will gather for prayers and final interment.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and key cabinet members are expected to attend, alongside former heads of state, northern emirs, and religious leaders.
The Federal Government previously declared Tuesday, July 15, a public holiday in Buhari’s honor, urging all Nigerians to reflect on the former leader’s contributions to national development, anti-corruption efforts, and democratic stability.
