Burna Boy has finally responded to the wave of criticisms and complaints from fans who say he is becoming increasingly rude, dismissive, and disrespectful towards them.
The backlash began after the singer confronted a concertgoer for sleeping in the front row during his performance. Days later, he stirred even more controversy during an Instagram Live session where he implied that he preferred fans “with money.”
In a lengthy Instagram Story post, Burna Boy addressed the situation directly:
According to him, there has been an “agenda” against him for years, and he has developed “bulletproof skin.” He compared the incident to scenarios where disruptive people are removed for making professionals unable to do their jobs.
He wrote:
“If you make the pilot uncomfortable in a plane you bought a ticket for, you will be deboarded. You pay school fees but you will be kicked out of class if you make it uncomfortable for the teacher to do his job.
My shows have people who have beaten cancer or overcame something serious, and none of them have ever slept. I leave my soul on every stage… I will gladly be cancelled if we are now in a world where you can treat me like a stripper because you threw $100 at me.”
Burna Boy claimed his IG Live comments were misinterpreted and that he had actually been joking with his band. He said critics were twisting his words to push a false narrative that he doesn’t love his fans.
He added:
“If you hate me so much, either kll me or leave me alone. I’m fighting my own battles… I love who loves me and respect who respects me. Free Sudan, Free Congo, Free Nigeria.”*
The Grammy winner also expressed frustration that his good deeds rarely get reported, while negative stories about him immediately go viral.
“They never post any of the good I do but go wild when they think I’ve finally fxxked up.”
He ended his message by apologizing only if he was wrong, acknowledging that he is human and not always perfect.
