The newly appointed Vice Chancellor of Edo State University, Iyamho, Prof. Victor Olawale Adetimirin, has pledged to transform the institution through digitalization, innovation, and research-driven growth.
Speaking during his maiden press briefing at the university, Prof. Adetimirin outlined his vision to position Edo State University as one of Nigeria’s leading institutions and a globally recognized center of excellence.
He emphasized that the university’s growth would be anchored on functional education capable of driving technological, industrial, and economic development, while also ensuring global relevance.
“My goal is to see Edo State University ranked among the best in Nigeria, Africa, and the world. To achieve this, we must drive up revenue, diversify our income streams, and invest in cutting-edge research and infrastructure,” he said.
Prof. Adetimirin further revealed plans to adopt a circular economy model within the institution, prioritizing sustainability through recycling, reusing, and regeneration. According to him, the university must align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to become one of the most sustainable campuses globally.
A major highlight of his vision is the digitalization of all operations, including admissions, academic records, timetables, results, and financial transactions. He explained that digitization would boost transparency, eliminate corruption, and enhance efficiency.
“Digitalization helps eliminate corruption and wastage in fee collection and disbursement while ensuring data-driven decision-making,” he stressed.
The Vice Chancellor also assured both staff and students of improved welfare, mental health support, scholarships, and academic opportunities. He promised special assistance for lecturers interested in publishing world-class journals but constrained by funding, adding that such efforts would also boost the university’s global reputation.
Prof. Adetimirin expressed gratitude to Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for his appointment and commended the state government for providing modern facilities that have positioned Edo University as one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing institutions.
