Former Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, has reportedly passed away in London, United Kingdom, according to emerging reports.
Sources quoted by Very Nigerian claim the former governor died after battling severe heart failure and complications linked to urinary cancer. A senior family source was also cited as saying:
“His health had been declining in the past months, but the final collapse came suddenly. We are devastated.”
Medical personnel in London were said to have confirmed that Obiano had been receiving intensive care before his condition deteriorated further.
One insider reportedly added:
“He fought till the very last moment.”
Born on August 8, 1955, Obiano hailed from Aguleri in Anambra East Local Government Area. He studied Accounting at the University of Lagos and went on to build an extensive career in banking, rising to the position of top executive at Fidelity Bank before venturing into politics.
