Former President Muhammadu Buhari has been laid to rest at his family residence in Daura, Katsina State, following a private but nationally significant ceremony attended by dignitaries, military officials, and traditional rulers.
The burial rites, conducted according to Islamic tradition, were performed shortly after his remains arrived in Katsina and were received by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other government representatives. Emotions ran high as the nation paid its final respects to a man who served Nigeria in both military and civilian leadership roles.
“His legacy will remain part of our national history,” said a family representative during the brief farewell ceremony.
The body of the late president was transported from London to Katsina, before being escorted under military guard to Daura. The quiet town has been the center of national attention in the past 48 hours, with thousands of mourners lining the streets and flags flying at half-mast nationwide.
President Tinubu, who earlier declared July 15 a national public holiday, described Buhari as “a patriot whose service transcended generations.”
The state burial, though solemn, served as a powerful reminder of Buhari’s place in Nigeria’s modern political journey.
