The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially expelled the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, and former National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu.
Their expulsion was announced during the PDP national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State. The motion was moved by former PDP National Vice Chairman (South) Chief Olabode George and seconded by Hon. Samaila Burga, the PDP Chairman in Bauchi State.
Court Battle Before the Convention
Ahead of the convention, the Wike-aligned faction attempted to stop the event through court action. However, the party secured a favourable ruling from an Oyo High Court, clearing the way for the convention to proceed as planned.
Wike Faction Rejects Convention
Days before the event, Mao Ohabunwa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Wike-led faction, dismissed the convention as legally invalid. He warned members against attending, describing the gathering as “a jamboree” and insisting the group would obey all court decisions related to the event.
He stated:
“Ibadan is a public place; people can go for anything but not for a convention. Anyone going there in the name of the convention should consider it a jamboree.”
The faction’s acting national chairman, Abdulrahman Muhammad, also instructed delegates to boycott the event, promising a stronger, united party structure under their faction.
Wike Reacts
Despite the internal turmoil, Wike praised his loyalists for standing firm and defending the party in their local areas. He assured them of continued support and reiterated his respect for the PDP constitution, saying:
“I will continue to support you. I won’t betray you.”
