Governor Ademola Adeleke and Osun State PDP leaders endorse President Bola Tinubu for re-election in 2027, reaffirm party allegiance despite earlier defection rumours.
In a strategic announcement that surprised political watchers, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State and senior officials from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun have officially endorsed President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election while emphatically pledging to remain within their party fold.

The declaration emerged from a Monday stakeholders meeting at the Government House in Osogbo, attended by Governor Adeleke, Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Senator Lere Oyewumi, PDP Chairman Sunday Bisi, and other key party figures. A communique was released reaffirming two key resolutions: support for Tinubu’s re-election and backing for Adeleke’s own 2026 gubernatorial run.
The statement read in part:
“We reaffirm our unwavering loyalty to the PDP and the Adeleke administration. We also affirm that President Bola Tinubu, being a proud indigene of Osun State, has our support for his re-election come 2027.”
This move comes after weeks of rumors that Adeleke might decamp to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The PDP caucus clarified that the defection narrative “did not originate from the governor” and was opposed by both PDP and even some APC leaders. The communique stressed that Adeleke would continue in the PDP and that the defection plot had been rejected.
Governor Adeleke explained that the decisions reflected “broad-based consultations” with traditional rulers, civil servants, market unions, and community groups all of whom urged him to remain in PDP while supporting Tinubu, regarded as a “proud son of Osun.” He stated that these sentiments reinforced both his and the party’s political strategy and grassroots strength.
