The Nigeria Police Force has announced plans to formally decorate outstanding officers recently promoted by the Police Service Commission (PSC) in recognition of their exceptional service, integrity, and professional excellence.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, will lead the ceremony on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at 12 noon, in the IGP Smart Conference Room, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Among the honorees are:
- CSP Shaba Aliyu, Police Officer of the Year 2023 – promoted to Assistant Commissioner of Police (effective December 31, 2023).
- SP Sentome Obi, Police Officer of the Year 2024 – promoted to Chief Superintendent of Police (effective December 31, 2024).
The IGP noted that these accelerated promotions are part of a deliberate policy to reward officers who have demonstrated exemplary conduct and distinguished performance, in line with a resolution made during the Force Management Team meeting on June 23, 2025.
To underscore the significance of their achievements:
- The police jet will convey ACP Shaba and CSP Obi to Abuja for the ceremony.
- Their photographs have been prominently displayed at the main entrance of Force Headquarters, as well as all Zonal and State Command Headquarters.
According to the IGP, the initiative stems from a July 25, 2025, pledge to recommend accelerated promotion for any officer who wins Police Officer of the Year or an equivalent recognition twice in two consecutive years.
“Rewarding excellence is the cornerstone of institutional reform. This is what institutional pride looks like. This is how trust is built, from within,” the IGP said.
DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, reaffirmed the leadership’s commitment to ensuring that integrity and professionalism are not only acknowledged but rewarded.
