The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Tuesday, 15 July 2025, a public holiday to honour the life and legacy of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on July 13 in London at the age of 82.

This declaration was made public by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who stated that the decision was reached after consultations with the Presidency and the National Council of State. The holiday is meant to give Nigerians time to reflect on the contributions of the late leader and observe national mourning.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the declaration of Tuesday as a public holiday nationwide, as a mark of honour and remembrance for the statesman, former military ruler, and two-term civilian president,” the statement read.
