As preparations intensify for the forthcoming Local Government elections in Edo State, Chairmanship aspirant for Ovia South West Local Government Area, Kelvin Omoruyi, has pledged to deliver impactful grassroots development, describing local governance as the closest link to the people.
Speaking to journalists about his ambition, Omoruyi said his decision to contest was fueled by a deep commitment to fast-track development at the grassroots level. He emphasized that Ovia South West possesses vast agricultural potential which, if harnessed with the right leadership, could greatly benefit both residents and the state’s economy.
Omoruyi praised the developmental strides of Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo and Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa, applauding their efforts to steer the state towards progress after what he described as years of retrogressive governance.
“Governor Okpebholo and his Deputy have shown that leadership can be practical, people-focused and result-driven,” he said.
Seven-Point Agenda for Ovia South West
Running under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Omoruyi outlined a seven-point agenda aimed at transforming the council area. His proposed initiatives include:
- Rehabilitation and grading of rural roads to connect various wards
- Installation of solar-powered streetlights in major streets
- Renovation of dilapidated primary and secondary schools
- Youth empowerment programs
- Agricultural development and boosting the local economy
- Women empowerment projects
- Expanded grassroots support schemes
Omoruyi, a young entrepreneur and grassroots mobilizer, assured that his administration would be driven by purposeful, value-based and people-oriented programs.
“My mission is to improve the overall well-being of our people through targeted projects and initiatives,” Omoruyi stated.
“Politics is very local, and my blueprint is to bring governance closer to the people. The grassroots must feel the impact of leadership.”
He urged residents and party stakeholders to support his vision, promising to make Ovia South West a model of inclusive development if elected.
