Former Lagos deputy governor Kofo Bucknor‑Akerele says President Tinubu should prioritize national reform over pursuing a second term, warning of rising youth unrest and institutional decay.
Veteran politician and former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Senator Kofoworola Bucknor‑Akerele has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s apparent focus on a second-term ambition for 2027, labeling it a “misplaced priority” given the crippling socio-economic challenges plaguing Nigeria.
She wrote off the re-election bid as ill-timed, urging Tinubu’s team to instead follow the example of respected statespersons like Emeka Anyaoku, who are working toward transformative policy frameworks for future generations.
Bucknor‑Akerele warned that Nigeria’s restive youth population could thwart political ambitions if systemic challenges remain unaddressed. She highlighted the plight of underemployed graduates working menial jobs, and emphasized that meaningful employment should not be postponed due to political distractions.
She strongly stated that if the government continues its current trajectory, Nigeria risks sliding into disaster unless citizen pressure forces a change.
