Pastor Jerry Eze of Streams of Joy International has come under heavy criticism on social media following his reaction to the recent deadly church attack in Kwara State.
On Wednesday, November 19, the popular pastor took to his X account to condemn the rising wave of banditry and terrorism across Nigeria. In a fiery prayer point, he wrote:
“About time, GOD OF JUDGEMENT, SPARE NO ENEMY OF NIGERIA AND THEIR SPONSORS IN JESUS’ NAME. Enough is enough of this banditry, terrorism, and wickedness. FIRE.”
Pastor Eze, widely known for his global online prayer movement, NSPPD, expressed deep concern over the worsening insecurity and called on God to judge those responsible for Nigeria’s violence.
His post came shortly after the attack on a Christ Apostolic Church in Kwara State, an incident that has sparked nationwide outrage and reactions from citizens, celebrities, and public figures, including actress Funke Akindele.
However, many Nigerians on social media were not impressed. They argued that prayer alone is not a sufficient response, especially from influential figures who they believe should speak more boldly against government failures.
Here are some reactions:
@stanogbo97: “The response may sound harsh, but it captures a frustration many have: too many influential voices hide behind prayer while refusing to confront those in power. Nigeria is at a point where silence feels like complicity.”
@Kingprince006: “Oga this is the time for action and not God this and that…”
@Victor_blaq1: “You guys have been calling God for years… He won’t do anything again because He has already given us hands, legs, and sense to make decisions, yet we sit and watch.”
@RexUchendu: “We should leave God out of this abeg. We did not elect God as our Commander-in-Chief.”
@Nwafresh: “The wealth you have today is because Christians join your livestream. It’s time for you to march into the streets. It must not end with just a tweet.”
@MorrisChukwuebuka: “With all due respect, man of God, I think we have prayed enough. You have a huge following; you are a Brigadier General.”
Pastor Eze has not yet responded to the criticism.
