Documents from Peoples Gazette expose 33 land allocations signed by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike on July 16, 2025 benefiting his 90-year-old father, nephews, cousins, and close allies, igniting questions about corruption.

Wike personally approved 33 land allocations on July 16, 2025, to family members and close associates in Guzape II district of Abuja.
At the centre of the scandal is Joshua Nlemanya Wike, the minister’s 90-year-old father, who received 1,042 m² of prime land valued at ₦400 million (file RV62783).
Other beneficiaries included close relatives: cousin Believe Wike, nephews Victor and Henry Wike, cousin Promise Wike, and eight family members of James Hunwo.
These July 16 approvals came just months after six of Wike’s siblings were allocated lands in the same district on April 22, 2025 totaling over 16,350 m² across six plots.
Witnesses and insiders report that Wike regularly directed AGIS officials to expedite allocations without proper payments or checks, bypassing statutory processes.
Concern is rising that the allocations form part of a “land dynasty” scheme within the FCT.
Hassan Mairiga, a mid-level AGIS staffer, was arrested on July 2 after leaks surfaced. He was later freed amid public backlash and legal intervention by Omoyele Sowore raising concerns of intimidation tactics by the minister.
Civil society groups have petitioned for legal action, stressing that the allocations are “reckless abuse of office.”
