Marlian Music boss, Naira Marley, has finally broken his silence on the controversies surrounding the d£ath of his former signee, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Marley narrated his side of the story, addressing their professional and personal relationship, financial dealings, and Mohbad’s health struggles.
“We Were Extremely Close” – Marley
The singer recalled introducing Mohbad to the world at the Marlian Fest in December 2019 alongside Zinoleesky and Cblack. According to him, Mohbad was ambitious and had big dreams, including winning a Headies Award.
“Even though he dropped hot songs, Headies never gave him an award when he was alive until after he d!ed. That is so sad,” Marley lamented.
He revealed that by June 2020, he discovered Mohbad was using a substance called “ice” and warned him against it, noting he had seen the dangers of hard drugs while living in the UK.
Financial Dealings
On money matters, Marley stated that Mohbad once asked him to pay his earnings into an account not in his name.
“I was not comfortable with that arrangement, but I still paid the money. Later, I insisted he open his own account. Our contract was transparent, and it was always 50-50. I never cheated him,” Marley said.
Health, NDLEA Incident & Su!c!de Attempt
Marley addressed the February 2022 NDLEA incident, when Mohbad accused him of endangering his life. He said Mohbad was under panic and stress at the time, and he personally paid his hospital bills, medications, and scans.
He also revealed that Mohbad once attempted su!c!de in March 2022, but he and others intervened quickly to save him.
Despite challenges, Marley maintained that his bond with Mohbad remained intact until his passing:
“Even after all these incidents, our relationship was smooth. He kept releasing hits like Ronaldo and Peace. I never harmed him; instead, I supported him in every way I could. His passing is painful, and I will continue to honor his memory.”
