The Federal Government of Nigeria is gearing up for an extraordinary Guinness World Record attempt to host the world’s longest dining table, stretching an incredible 3.6 kilometers through the streets of Abuja.
The event will headline the upcoming “Oriki: Taste of Culture” Gastronomy Festival, scheduled for December 6, and aims to position Nigeria as a major player in global cultural tourism and culinary excellence.
Announcing the initiative, Abisoye Fagade, Director-General of the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR), revealed that the massive dining setup will accommodate between 2,000 and 3,000 guests.
“We plan to break the record in the morning of December 6 and use the same table for a dining event later. There will be food, culture, music, and comedy in the evening. It will show that Abuja can also host major cultural events in December,” Fagade stated.
The festival, endorsed by Minister of Art, Culture, and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, is part of a broader strategy to promote gastronomy, tourism, and youth empowerment sectors now being recognized as vital contributors to Nigeria’s creative economy.
“When we talk about economic growth and youth development, gastronomy plays a role just like film, music, and fashion. People eat every day, and Nigeria has made significant progress in showcasing its food globally,” Musawa said.
The current record for the world’s longest dining table, 3,189.93 meters, was set in Cairo, Egypt, in 2019. Nigeria’s 3.6km setup, if successful, will shatter that record and place the nation at the forefront of global culinary innovation.
President Bola Tinubu is expected to officially flag off the event in Abuja, as organizers promise a day filled with food, music, culture, and comedy.
