Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has confidently stated that no political figure in Nigeria including former President Goodluck Jonathan can unseat Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Bwala dismissed recent calls for Jonathan to contest, describing them as a calculated attempt to tarnish the former president’s hard-earned post-office reputation.
“Some unscrupulous elements are trying to lure former President Jonathan back into politics just to destroy the international reputation he has built since leaving office,” Bwala said.
He argued that the southern political bloc Jonathan’s home base is already strongly aligned with Tinubu, citing the support of several governors in the region. Bwala also cast doubt on the sincerity of northern politicians pushing Jonathan to run, reminding Nigerians that some of them actively opposed him during his presidency.
“The same people who are now calling on him to run were among those who pushed him out of office. What makes anyone think they genuinely mean well for him this time?” he questioned.
Bwala stressed that the 2027 political climate favors Tinubu, adding:
“Even if President Jonathan decides to contest, there is no politician in Nigeria today with the capacity to defeat President Bola Tinubu.”
Jonathan has not yet made any public statement on whether he will join the race for 2027.
