During his recent visit to Benin City, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, made headlines as he advised Governor Monday Okpebholo to focus on development rather than probing the administration of his predecessor, Godwin Obaseki.

Wike, in a candid reflection, acknowledged his own past political grievances with Obaseki but urged the new administration to turn the page in the interest of Edo State’s future.
“If there’s anyone who should have asked for Obaseki to be probed, it’s me,” Wike said. “But what I suffered in making sure he returned for a second term is now behind me.”
The minister went further to publicly apologize to Senator Adams Oshiomhole, a former governor of Edo State, expressing regret for backing Obaseki during their bitter fallout. Speaking with rare humility, Wike said:
“I was part of it. I humiliated you while supporting Obaseki. I apologize on national TV, sorry for what I did to you.”

❌ Event Cancellation: Honoring Buhari
Wike was originally scheduled to commission the New Edo Line Terminal, part of the second phase of the Benin Central Bus Terminal project. However, the event was canceled in honor of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on July 13, 2025.
