The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has rejected the recent one-term presidency pledge made by former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, describing it as a political strategy rather than a sincere commitment to national unity or reform.
In a statement issued Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Muhammad Buba Galadima, the ACF stated that such a promise lacks constitutional backing and could be seen as a manipulative ploy to win Northern support ahead of the 2027 elections.
“A one-term promise is not binding in law and has, in the past, been dishonored. We see this as political window-dressing meant to sway Northern votes, not a genuine pact of service to the people,” the statement read.
Obi, during a town hall session in Abuja last week, stated he was willing to serve only one term if elected president in 2027, vowing to “lay the right foundation and exit honourably.” He framed it as a way to reduce tensions and guarantee inclusivity in governance.
But the ACF has warned the North not to be swayed by such promises.
“What the North needs is competent leadership with clear plans on security, education, and economic revival — not political stunts,” Galadima added.
