The Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria (CSSLN) has announced the suspension of Rt. Hon. Prince Adewale Egbedun, the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, over allegations of insubordination and abuse of office.
The announcement was made during a press conference held in Ibadan, Oyo State, by the Chairman of the Conference, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, who condemned Egbedun’s alleged misconduct towards a respected royal figure.
“Our Association consists of well-cultured citizens of Nigeria, and we cannot allow one individual’s actions to tarnish the image of our organization,” Ogundoyin said.
Although the details remain limited, the suspension follows a formal petition submitted to the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Zone XXI, by the unnamed royal father. The complaint reportedly centers on the Osun Speaker’s behavior, which has been described as inappropriate, uncultured, and disrespectful.
Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin stated that the suspension is immediate and will remain in place pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation into the allegations.
“We expect leaders in legislative positions to exhibit decorum, respect, and integrity in both public and private conduct,” he added.
Prince Adewale Egbedun, who became Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly in 2023, has been a vocal political figure in the state. This suspension marks a significant shift in his political trajectory and raises questions.
The Conference of Speakers emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, and further actions would be based on the findings of the Deputy Inspector General of Police.
