A fiery exchange erupted on social media between controversial singer Portable and activist VeryDarkMan (VDM) following VDM’s critique of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over Nigeria’s economic challenges and rising insecurity.
VeryDarkMan had warned that unless Tinubu addresses worsening economic conditions, he risks being judged similarly to the late President Buhari. Reacting to the rising cost of living and insecurity, VDM wrote that Tinubu could be “remembered like Buhari” if no improvements are seen.
Portable quickly defended the president, mocking VDM’s message in a viral statement:
“VeryDarkMan, it won’t be well with you… Before, you used to drink sachet water, but since Tinubu came in, you’re now drinking bottled water. That shows he is working as a president.”
He argued this change in VDM’s lifestyle was proof of Tinubu’s positive impact.
VDM responded with scorching criticism, invoking a long‑circulated 2020 video in which Portable was allegedly caught trying to steal a tricycle:
“Portable, look at your video from 2020 when you went to steal a keke … You’re insulting me, someone who already owned a car and keke since 2020.”
He also accused Portable of working as a political pawn:
“Someone who once tried to steal a keke can easily be used by politicians to defend rubbish… How much did they give you?”
“If we ever meet one-on-one without security, I’ll use your face to clean the ground.”
