President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially unveiled a Personal Income Tax (PIT) calculator to help Nigerians understand how the upcoming tax reforms will affect their earnings.
Announcing the tool via his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday, Tinubu explained that the calculator will allow citizens to compare their current tax obligations with the revised system, which is scheduled to take effect in January 2026.
According to the President, the reforms are aimed at ensuring fairness, equity, and redistribution in the economy while safeguarding low-income earners.
“A fair tax system must never punish poverty or weigh down the most vulnerable. With the new tax laws I recently signed, taking effect from January 2026, we have lifted this burden and created a path of equity, fairness, and true redistribution in our economy,” Tinubu stated.
He added that the PIT calculator provides transparency by showing how the reforms will protect low-income earners, ensure progressivity, and simplify compliance.
Tinubu also called on Nigerians to support the reforms, emphasizing that they are part of his administration’s broader economic renewal agenda.
“Together, we are renewing hope in the Nigeria of our dreams. Take a bet on our country. Bet on Nigeria to work for you, your family, and your community,” he said.
The calculator is now live and can be accessed on the government’s official fiscal reforms portal: fiscalreforms.ng/index.php/pit-calculator/
