A viral video featuring Nigerian cleric Prophet Elijah Bamidele Ilukholor has stirred fresh controversy online after he came to the defense of Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, following the backlash over comments directed at former presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Earlier this week, Governor Okpebholo drew sharp criticism for saying Peter Obi must inform him before visiting Edo State. While many interpreted the statement as a veiled threat or political posturing, others saw it as a genuine concern for security and protocol. The backlash, particularly from supporters of Obi and social media activists, has been swift and loud.
But Prophet Ilukholor isn’t having it.
“You Are Useless If You Insult The Governor” – Ilukholor Fires Back
In a fiery video circulating on social media, Prophet Ilukholor condemned the public outrage, describing those attacking Governor Okpebholo especially Edo indigenes and human rights activists as “useless” individuals who lack respect for leadership.
“If you are an Edo social media influencer or human rights activist and you are among those insulting the governor of Edo state, Mr Monday Okpebholo over his statement on Peter Obi, you are a useless person. I owe no one an apology,” he said bluntly.
Drawing an analogy to family hierarchy, the cleric defended the governor’s demand for prior notice from Obi, likening it to a family head requesting respect and order from visitors.
“The governor said if Peter Obi is to enter Edo state, he should call him on the phone. He is the number one citizen of Edo state,” Ilukholor insisted. “Don’t just walk into someone’s state because you’re popular. It’s about respect and structure.”
Peter Obi Can’t Rule Nigeria in 2027 – Cleric Declares
Prophet Ilukholor didn’t stop there. He also reiterated his belief that Peter Obi would not become Nigeria’s president in 2027, regardless of public support or youth backing.
“I have told you before. 2027, Peter Obi cannot rule Nigeria. If he likes, he should go anywhere and gather all the youths in the whole world. That Aso Rock, now, Peter Obi cannot see it,” he declared.
The cleric’s comments have reignited the debate over Obi’s presidential chances and the political temperature ahead of 2027.
