The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has officially launched its campaign ahead of the August 30, 2025 local government elections, handing party flags to its chairmanship and councillorship candidates.
The campaign flag-off, held on Thursday, drew party faithful from across the state’s 23 local government areas.
Speaking at the event, Chief Tony Okocha, APC State Chairman, reaffirmed the party’s determination to win all 23 chairmanship positions and 319 councillorship seats. He urged members to take the campaign message to every community and polling unit in the state.
“Now, as soon as this is consummated, you are free to go to all the nooks and crannies of the 23 local government areas and the 319 wards and campaign,” Okocha declared.
He recalled that the APC boycotted the October 5, 2024 council polls, which he described as flawed, but emphasized that the upcoming election processes under the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) were credible and fair.
Also addressing the crowd, Senator Magnus Ngei Abe, representing APC National Vice Chairman (South-South) Victory Giadom, praised Okocha’s leadership for uniting the party and warned that anyone claiming to lead APC in Rivers outside the recognized structure was acting illegally.
Former Nigerian High Commissioner to Jamaica, Belize, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic, Maureen Tamuno, commended the party’s inclusiveness and promised that Rivers women would play a key role in delivering grassroots support for APC.
“We are committed to the fear of God that has brought about unity and peace in Rivers State… When the time comes, we will deliver the dividends of democracy,” she assured.
The Rivers APC now heads into the final weeks before the polls with renewed energy, eyeing a clean sweep of all local government seats.
