The Kaduna State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has officially debunked claims that former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, was suspended or banned from the party for 30 years.
In a statement issued by Hon. Darius Kurah, the state’s Publicity Secretary, the party clarified that the report was false, unauthorized, and politically motivated.
Kurah stated that the widely circulated publication, attributed to Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, is not only misleading but also came from an unauthorized individual. He affirmed that Ambassador Judith Shua’ibu remains the recognized National Publicity Secretary of the party.
“Any statement issued under Aiyenigba’s name in that capacity is null, unauthorized, and of no consequence,” the statement read.
According to the SDP constitution, disciplinary measures such as suspension or expulsion require:
- A formal query or summons to the member involved
- A valid disciplinary hearing
- An official decision by the National Working Committee (NWC) or the member’s ward chapter
None of these steps were followed in El-Rufai’s case.
“At no point was Mallam El-Rufai subjected to any such process,” Kurah emphasized.
The statement confirmed that while El-Rufai is not yet serving in any official party capacity, he has fulfilled all constitutional requirements for membership, including ward registration.
Allegations that he promotes rival party interests were dismissed as baseless and unsubstantiated.
The SDP described the controversial publication as an act of cheap political propaganda designed to create confusion within the party.
“This is a politically motivated attempt to manipulate public perception and destabilize the party,” the Kaduna SDP concluded.
The Kaduna SDP urges party members and the public to disregard any unauthorized publications regarding El-Rufai, reaffirming that no disciplinary action has been taken against him.
