The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has firmly distanced itself from El-Rufai, warning the public and political stakeholders that he is not a recognized member or representative of the party.
In a strongly worded statement, SDP National Publicity Secretary Alfa Idris stated that El-Rufai has been “appearing at various fora, claiming to represent the SDP”, without any official mandate or authorization.
“Let it be known he is not authorised, recognised, or mandated by the party in any capacity,” Idris declared.
No Record of Membership
Idris emphasized that El-Rufai’s name is absent from the official membership register of the party. He also stated that El-Rufai has never held any position or participated in any party activity.
The party reaffirmed the legitimacy of its current leadership, including:
- Acting National Chairman: Dr. Sadiq Umar
- National Secretary: Chief Olu Agunloye
- 2023 Presidential Candidate: Prince Adewole Adebayo
The statement also took aim at Dr. Umar Ardo, accusing him of promoting a new political platform, the African Democratic Assembly (ADA), while misusing the SDP structure for personal gain.
As a result, the party passed a vote of no confidence against both El-Rufai and Ardo, threatening further action.
“Let this serve as a final warning. If the impersonation continues, we will recommend the formation of a special NEC committee to expose and publish all related infractions,” Idris warned.
The SDP cautioned the public, media, and political actors to disregard any statements or activities carried out by El-Rufai in the name of the SDP. It reiterated that all legitimate communication must originate from verified national officials.
