In a dramatic turn, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has officially expelled former Kaduna State Governor Nasir Ahmad El‑Rufai and issued a 30-year ban on him from any party involvement, citing alleged attempts to hijack and destabilize the political organization.
The SDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) accused El‑Rufai of falsely claiming membership without registering at the ward level, violating party rules and manipulating party structures for personal political gain. Investigations also claimed he forged documents and staged photo opportunities to reinforce his purported affiliation.
The party characterized his actions as “gross indiscipline, misinformation, inducement, and manipulation,” ultimately deciding that he posed a threat to its unity.
SDP said the ban prohibits El‑Rufai from using the party’s name, logo, or attending any internal affairs until July 28, 2055.
North‑West Zonal Secretary Inuwa Idris reiterated that El‑Rufai has never been recognized or authorized by SDP to represent or speak for the party. He emphasized that official communication must come only from verified leadership like Acting National Chairman Dr. Sadiq Umar, National Secretary Dr. Olu Agunloye, or Prince Adewole Adebayo, the 2023 presidential candidate.
A vote of no confidence was also passed against Dr. Umar Ardo, accused of using the SDP platform to promote a rival party (ADC), further intensifying party discipline measures.
Regional SDP Chairmen distanced themselves from a controversial NEC meeting purportedly called by El‑Rufai, labeling it unconstitutional and lacking authority. They claimed the former governor misled attendees to aid a power grab, underscoring his destabilization agenda.
