Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has fired back at former U.S. President Donald Trump following his remarks on Nigeria’s alleged religious freedom crisis and threats of sanctions against top Nigerian officials.
Reacting to Trump’s comments, which accused Nigeria of failing to protect Christian communities, Soludo stated that such a stance is hypocritical and meddlesome, arguing that internal security and social challenges should be addressed domestically, not politicized by foreign powers.
“If Africa followed that logic, we would have invaded the United States over the #BlackLivesMatter crisis,” Soludo said, referencing America’s own struggles with racial injustice and police brutality.
He emphasized that while Nigeria faces genuine security issues, foreign nations often oversimplify complex socio-political dynamics for political gain. Soludo urged the U.S. to focus on its internal reforms rather than attempt to “play savior” in African affairs.
“Every nation has its challenges. Ours may differ from yours, but sovereignty must be respected,” he added.
His comments have since sparked a wave of online reactions, with many Nigerians praising Soludo for defending the country’s dignity, while others urged him to focus on addressing domestic governance and security lapses.
