Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has disclosed that the team is still waiting for the $100,000 reward and other incentives promised by the Federal Government after their victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Speaking in an interview with Chude Jideonwo, Ajibade expressed her disappointment over the delay, revealing that none of the commitments made after their historic win have been fulfilled.
When asked by Chude if the $100,000 had been delivered, Ajibade replied:
“We have not received our money, but hopefully, it would be paid. They have not paid; all the promises, we have not received anything.”
Ajibade captained the Super Falcons to another record-extending WAFCON title in Morocco, cementing Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football.
Following their victory, President Bola Tinubu hosted the team at the Presidential Villa, where he awarded each player a national honour (OON), a $100,000 cash reward, and a three-bedroom flat. The President commended the players for their “indomitable spirit of resilience, determination, and courage,” describing their win as a historic moment for the nation.
However, days after the announcement, the players are yet to see the promised rewards.
