Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has confirmed that he will officially defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday, November 19 marking a major political shift in the state’s history.
Speaking with journalists on Saturday, Governor Kefas described the move as one driven by “the destiny and future of Taraba people,” adding that he expects a large turnout at the defection ceremony.
According to him:
“There is going to be a major shift and alignment on November 19. I will officially transition from PDP to APC. It is a movement that has to do with the destiny of Taraba people.”
Governor Kefas will become the latest PDP governor to defect to the APC in 2025, joining a growing list that includes Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Peter Mbah (Enugu) and Douye Diri (Bayelsa).
Dr. Kefas, who won the 2023 governorship election with 257,926 votes, defeated NNPP’s Muhammad Yahaya and the APC’s Emmanuel Bwacha. His move marks a significant break in Taraba’s political pattern, as every elected governor in the state since 1999 has emerged from the PDP.
Political analysts say his defection could reshape party structures across the North-East and spark wider realignments ahead of 2027.
