The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has taken delivery of four 50-seater hybrid buses from the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI), a development expected to significantly improve public transportation in Abuja and advance President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Receiving the buses on behalf of FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike, the Mandate Secretary, Transport Secretariat, Mr. Chinedu Elechi, praised the Federal Government and the PCNGI for fulfilling their pledge within just 24 hours.

“When you promised to deliver four super 50-seater hybrid buses yesterday, I was surprised. Today, the buses are here. This is exactly what the Renewed Hope Agenda is about,” Elechi said.
According to him, the buses which can transport over 200 passengers at once will reduce reliance on private cars and strengthen Abuja’s public transport network. He noted that the FCT Administration has been investing heavily in roads, bridges, and modern bus terminals, including the recently commissioned facilities at Mabushi and Kugbo.
Mr. Michael Oluwagbemi, Program Director and Chief Executive of the PCNGI, said Abuja was chosen as a major beneficiary due to its innovation in transport infrastructure under Wike’s leadership.

“We see the FCT as one of our biggest supporters. These buses are foundation assets for the operation of your new terminals. Our philosophy at PCNGI is simple — talk and do,” he stated.
Oluwagbemi also disclosed that the FRSC will launch new plate number formats for CNG and electric vehicles in September, aligning with Nigeria’s push for greener, cheaper, and more reliable transport solutions.
The hybrid buses are designed to run on both Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and diesel (AGO), ensuring uninterrupted service even when CNG supply is unavailable.
