Multiple PDP interest groups, including former leaders like Sule Lamido, have intensified calls for Minister Nyesom Wike’s expulsion over his involvement with the APC government and alleged subversion of party unity.
The ongoing internal crisis within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has escalated, with several party factions calling for the immediate expulsion of Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike. At the heart of the controversy are accusations that Wike has aligned with the rival All Progressives Congress (APC) and actively undermined PDP’s mission.
Key Developments
- The Conference of Professionals in the PDP (CP-PDP) has taken a hardline stance, declaring that Wike, who currently serves as FCT Minister under the APC-led government must either resign his APC post or be expelled. According to the group, allowing PDP members to serve in the ruling party’s administration is “anti-party” and threatens PDP’s function as the opposition.
- Former Governor Sule Lamido, noted PDP founding member, sharply criticized Wike as a “political disaster” and “traitor” to the party’s founding ideals. Lamido demanded his expulsion to preserve PDP’s integrity.
Wike Pushes Back
Despite mounting pressure, Wike has publicly dismissed expulsion threats. In 2023, he declared, “Nobody can expel me,” arguing that no party official has authority over him unless they produce electoral results he claims to deliver. He maintains he remains a loyal PDP member.
