Former Senator Dino Melaye Steps Into Court Wearing Wig & Gown After Being Called to Bar.
Former Kogi West senator and controversial politician, Dino Melaye, made his first official appearance in court as a newly called lawyer today. He appeared before Justice Emeka Nwite at the Federal High Court Abuja, dressed in full barrister’s robes and wig showing a significant shift in his public identity.

Melaye, known for his vibrant political career, graduated from law school at Baze University after earning a geography degree from Ahmadu Bello University. In April, he confirmed he had passed the final Bar exams, leading to his call to the Nigerian Bar last Thursday.
On social media this week, he shared celebratory photos from his call-to-the-bar ceremony, including one alongside Lawyer Deji Adeyanju, captioned simply: “Done and dusted.”
Today’s court session marked Melaye’s first formal entry as a legal practitioner. Photographs show him confidently seated in the dock, attired in a black gown and barrister’s wig, earning praise for his polished courtroom presence.
A social media observer noted: “Dino’s look was indeed sharp—he wore that gown like he was born for the courtroom.”
Melaye joins a select group of former legislators who have qualified as lawyers post-service.
