Fuji music legend King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, has denied allegations of disruptive behavior during a heated encounter with ValueJet staff at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on August 5.
FAAN, NCAA Respond
According to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), K1 attempted to board ValueJet Flight VK 201 to Lagos with a liquid substance that was flagged by aviation security (AVSEC) personnel. The liquid was later identified as alcohol, in violation of safety regulations.
The situation allegedly escalated when the contents spilled on an officer. After failed attempts to mediate, K1 was accused of obstructing the aircraft’s departure. The flight captain eventually taxied off without him, which FAAN labeled a necessary step for operational safety. The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has since suspended the pilots involved for allowing external influence to disrupt standard procedures.

K1’s Camp Speaks Out
In a statement issued by his media aide, Kunle Rasheed, K1 denied the allegations and claimed that the beverage in question was only plain water served in the VIP lounge.
“K1 did not harass anyone. The matter was clearly a misunderstanding. The airport staff escalated it unnecessarily,” Rasheed said, adding that ValueJet’s chairman and MD later reached out with an apology and even offered a private jet to Lagos an offer K1 respectfully declined.
The statement further suggested that the pilot may be shifting blame to cover his own operational error. K1’s camp urged FAAN and NCAA to carry out a full, unbiased investigation and cautioned the media against publishing false reports.
Public Reactions Mixed
The incident has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with some praising FAAN’s stance on aviation safety, while others criticized what they see as preferential treatment of celebrities in Nigerian airspace.
