Founder of the Living Faith Church Worldwide (Winners’ Chapel), Bishop David Oyedepo, has strongly opposed moves to permit the wearing of hijabs in Christian and mission schools, describing it as an attempt to overstep boundaries.
Speaking during a recent church service, Oyedepo criticized demands from some Muslim groups, particularly in Kwara State, insisting that female students in mission-owned schools should be allowed to wear hijabs. He called the development “nasty” and compared it to “a tenant decreeing for the landlord.”
“I have never seen a place in my life where a tenant will be decreeing for the landlord. God is not a toy. He is a consuming fire, let’s show them the consuming fire part of God. Leave the schools for the owners. Go to your own school. Is there any fight?” he said.
The cleric stressed that mission schools belong to the church and should not be forced to adopt practices contrary to their founding principles. He urged Muslim groups to establish their own institutions where hijabs could be freely worn.
Oyedepo warned that when God “turns His back on any system,” that system would be grounded and cursed. He also prayed for divine judgment against those “harassing the church,” while condemning other societal ills such as ritual killings, kidnapping, and destruction of livelihoods.
Calling the church “a temple” and “a time bomb,” Oyedepo urged Christians to pray for God’s intervention and insisted that the life and property of Nigerians must no longer be toyed with.
