President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow and frustration over the recent surge in deadly attacks across Nigeria, describing himself as “depressed” by the killing of military personnel and the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State.
Tinubu’s reaction was contained in a statement on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. The President condemned the brutal killings carried out by ISWAP terrorists, which claimed the lives of several soldiers, including Brigadier General Musa Uba.
“As the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, I am depressed with the death of our soldiers and officers on active duty,” Tinubu said. “May God comfort the families of Brigadier General Musa Uba and other fallen heroes.”
He also expressed sadness over the kidnapping of schoolgirls in Kebbi, describing the act as heartless. “I am depressed that terrorists have disrupted the education of innocent schoolgirls. I have directed security agencies to act swiftly and bring the girls back to Kebbi State.”
The President confirmed that security agencies have been ordered to secure the release of the abducted students. He also sent Vice President Kashim Shettima to Kebbi to meet with government officials and affected parents.
Tinubu appealed to traditional rulers, community leaders, and residents in vulnerable areas to support security agencies with credible information that can aid ongoing operations.
Meanwhile, Kebbi State Governor Mohammed Idris revealed that the attack occurred despite prior DSS intelligence warning of a possible strike on Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga. He hinted at potential sabotage by an unnamed security agency and announced the setup of a special panel to investigate the incident.
