A video showing operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) conducting a roadside operation in Lagos has stirred reactions on social media.
The clip captures NDLEA officers deploying a trained K9 dog to inspect vehicles parked along a road before uncovering wrapped packages suspected to contain illegal drugs.
In the footage, the sniffer dog can be seen moving around a vehicle before alerting officers, who then recovered several neatly packaged substances believed to be hard drugs.
The operation has drawn praise from some Nigerians, who commended the NDLEA for adopting advanced detection methods in its fight against drug trafficking and abuse.
However, others questioned the authenticity of the exercise, suggesting that the scene may have been staged. Critics pointed to details such as the driver wearing a face mask, the visible presence of cameras, and the manner in which the suspected drugs were packaged and discovered.
Despite the speculation, the NDLEA has not issued any statement indicating that the video was staged, and there is currently no independent evidence supporting the claims made by skeptics.
The agency has increasingly relied on K9 units in recent years to assist in detecting narcotics at airports, checkpoints and other strategic locations across Nigeria.
