Nollywood actress Ruth Kadiri has shared the touching story of how she met her husband, revealing that marriage was never something she actively desired or planned for.
Speaking about her personal journey, the actress said she never grew up fantasising about getting married and did not feel pressured to settle down.
“I’ve never really been the girl who sits down and thinks about marriage. It wasn’t a thing for me. I didn’t even know whether I was going to get married. I never had that kind of pressure to settle down,” she said.
Kadiri explained that she always saw herself as someone with value and never felt the need to rush into marriage.
“I knew I was a catch, and anyone who was going to marry me would be lucky. I said no to like three people who wanted to marry me.”
According to the actress, everything changed the day she met her husband while at work.
She disclosed that despite not being interested initially, she later agreed to speak with him, assuming he wanted to flirt with her.
“The first day I met my husband, God told me he was the one I was going to marry. I went to work, and he saw me and wanted to talk to me. At first, I wasn’t interested, but I later gave in. I thought he wanted to toast me or something.”
Rather than discussing romance, the pair spent their first conversation talking about business, importation and life in Vietnam.
“We finished talking, and there was nothing like ‘I love you’ or ‘I like you.’ As I was about to walk away, the Spirit of God told me, ‘He’s your husband.’”
Surprisingly, Ruth revealed that she blocked him two days later, but he remained persistent and eventually found his way back to her.
“Two days later, I blocked him. But he went the extra mile to find me, and I was surprised to see him on my set. He found his way back and asked me out on a date.”
At the time, the actress said she was still in another relationship but believed she was free to explore other options until marriage.
“The fact that I’m in a relationship with a man doesn’t mean I’m hooked. I’m very much single until I’m married.”
Their connection continued to grow, and just four months later, he proposed to her.
“We started talking, and I realised I was beginning to like him. Four months later, he proposed to me, and I accepted.”
Although she rarely discusses her private life publicly, Kadiri said she decided to share the story because it remains an important part of her journey.
