The Ogun State Government has stated that investigations into the alleged rape of Miss Nsikak Abigael Emem, popularly known as Mirabel, found that the claim was false and deliberately fabricated.
The disclosure was made in a statement issued by the Ogun State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade, who said findings from relevant authorities, alongside admissions reportedly made by Mirabel, showed that no rape incident occurred.
According to the statement, the investigation concluded that the allegation lacked factual basis.
“The investigations by relevant authorities, as well as Mirabel’s own admissions, established that the rape allegation was false and deliberately fabricated,” the statement noted.
The government explained that because no crime was committed, there was no suspect to arrest or prosecute despite the widespread public attention the case attracted.
However, authorities said they would not pursue criminal charges against Mirabel. Instead, officials opted for rehabilitation after reviewing the circumstances surrounding the matter.
“Following a comprehensive review of the circumstances, the Ministry concluded that the interest of justice would be better served through psycho-social rehabilitation rather than prosecution,” the statement added.
The Ogun State Government further revealed that Mirabel is currently receiving rehabilitative care and support under the supervision of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.
According to the Attorney-General, the Ministry of Justice continues to monitor her progress through periodic reports, which indicate that she is responding positively to the rehabilitation programme and preparing to continue her education.
The development has generated reactions online, with many Nigerians discussing the implications of false allegations and the government’s decision to prioritize rehabilitation over prosecution.
