Desmond Elliot: I Don’t Steal Public Funds Like Some Politicians

Lagos lawmaker Desmond Elliot has pushed back against the negative perception often associated with politicians, insisting that honesty and accountability have guided his years in public service.

Speaking during a recent interview, the Surulere Constituency I representative reflected on his political journey, highlighting what he considers some of the notable changes witnessed in his constituency since he assumed office.

Among the accomplishments he pointed to was the improvement in electricity supply across Surulere. According to him, residents endured years of poor power distribution in the past, but the situation has improved considerably over time.

“Power supply is one area I’m proud of. Surulere was a very difficult place to live in years ago because of electricity challenges, but today things are much better,” he said.

Elliot also used the opportunity to address issues of integrity in governance, stressing that he has remained committed to serving the public without engaging in corrupt practices.

“I’m not a politician that steals,” he stated.

Beyond discussing development projects, the lawmaker urged those occupying leadership positions to embrace humility and remember that public office is a privilege rather than a permanent entitlement.

According to him, no position lasts forever, and leaders must avoid seeing themselves as superior to the people they serve.

“We are only here for a period of time. Being in office does not make anyone better than others. There are many capable people out there, and leaders should never forget that,” Elliot added.

His remarks have generated reactions among Nigerians, with many weighing in on his comments about corruption, leadership, and governance in the country.
