Aproko Doctor’s Wife Speaks on PCOS, Fertility Struggles and Body Shaming

Chef Amaka, the wife of popular health advocate Aproko Doctor, has shared the emotional challenges she faced after being diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) shortly after getting married.

Speaking about her experience, she revealed that just three months into her marriage, her menstrual cycle suddenly stopped, prompting her to seek medical attention.

“When we got married, three months after, I stopped seeing my period. Then I went to the hospital and I was diagnosed with PCOS,” she said.

According to Chef Amaka, the condition brought significant physical changes, including weight gain and changes in her body shape, which attracted hurtful comments from people around her.

“The syndrome started giving me a funny body structure. I started adding weight. When I stood with my husband, I looked way older.”

She recalled that some people mocked her appearance, joking that she looked like the man in the relationship.

“People started saying that I’m the man of the house, that I resemble my husband.”

However, she said the most painful remarks were those questioning her husband’s masculinity and their ability to have children because of their fertility struggles.

“What made me cry was when they said my husband is not man enough to father a child.”

By sharing her story, Chef Amaka hopes to raise awareness about PCOS and encourage greater empathy for women living with the condition. She also highlighted the emotional impact of body shaming and the misconceptions surrounding fertility challenges faced by many couples.
