The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has defended President Bola Tinubu against criticism over Nigeria’s security challenges, saying the President has fulfilled his responsibility by directing the military to tackle insecurity.
Speaking at the US-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala organised by the Save Nigeria Group in Washington, D.C., Adeboye said it was unrealistic to expect the Commander-in-Chief to personally join military operations.
“I don’t support those who are accusing the president of not doing enough. When the commander-in-chief has given instructions to his subordinates, he has done his bit. You don’t expect him to go and put on khaki and fight,” he said.
The cleric compared Tinubu’s role to that of U.S. President Donald Trump, noting that presidents are expected to issue directives to the armed forces rather than participate directly in combat.
Despite defending the President, Adeboye acknowledged that insecurity has worsened across the country. He noted that terrorism and kidnapping, once largely confined to northern Nigeria, have spread to the South, raising concerns among many Nigerians.
He disclosed that he had discussed the security situation with President Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, urging the President to give military commanders a 90-day deadline to eliminate terrorism or resign from their positions.
Adeboye also called for decisive action against those financing terrorist activities, alleging that influential politicians and businessmen continue to sponsor insecurity in the country.
He further appealed to the United States and the international community to support Nigeria’s efforts in combating terrorism and restoring lasting peace.
