Designate Ambassador to Mexico, Reno Omokri, has stated that Nigeria is more secure today under President Bola Tinubu compared to the security situation recorded eight years ago, urging Nigerians to rely on facts rather than emotions when assessing the country’s progress.
Omokri argued that discussions around insecurity are often influenced by public perception and political sentiment, which can distort the actual situation on the ground. He insisted that available data suggests improvements in Nigeria’s overall security environment despite ongoing challenges in some regions.
According to him, while pockets of insecurity still exist across parts of the country, the general security situation has improved compared to previous years.
“When you focus on facts rather than emotions, the data shows that Nigeria is more secure under President Bola Tinubu, and state police will further improve security,” he said.
Omokri also expressed support for the establishment of state police, describing it as a practical reform that could enhance the country’s ability to respond to security challenges more efficiently.
He explained that security threats vary across states, making localized policing more effective in addressing specific community challenges. According to him, decentralizing policing would enable quicker response times and better understanding of local security dynamics.
The former presidential aide maintained that strengthening state-level security structures, alongside federal efforts, could significantly improve Nigeria’s overall safety situation.
His comments add to ongoing national discussions about security reforms and the proposed introduction of state police as a long-term solution to the country’s insecurity challenges.
